It’s that time of year where we all start to experience the winter blahs. The kids are starting to get a case of cabin fever and are itching for something new to do. Why not pull out your Cricut machine and a box of paper scraps to delight them with an activity of creating their own paper dolls?!
I started by going through my scraps and finding color combinations that looked good together. Don’t limit yourself to just cardstock. Patterned papers, glazed papers, and even vellum are so much fun to use to create all the different outfits. Next, I pulled out my Cricut Expression 2 Electronic Cutting Machine and the Once Upon a Princess cartridgeand just started cutting. Turn the kids loose or sit down and create alongside of them. It’s a great way to spend a snowy afternoon together!
To attach the clothes to the dolls, we used stick-on magnetic disks. We ended up creating two sets, one set for each of my two youngest daughters (these two girls of mine have to have everything the same or they get jealous of each other. Sound familiar? ). We used the positive magnet on one of the dolls with the negative-sides of the magnets on all of her corresponding clothes. So we didn’t waste the magnets, we then used the negative magnet on the other paper doll (with the positives for her clothes). That way each daughter can tell which clothes belong to her doll. The clothes that match her doll will line up easily. If she has an outfit that belongs to the other doll it won’t line up properly and attaches itself in a skewed manner.
What will you create on the next snowy day?
See you again soon!
